Dabblewood
Ecotopian/Arts CompoundHaving duly investigated all things "urban", it is fitting then that Nonchalance shift its focus to the rural. And shifted it has; on a recently acquired 5 acre ranch in Mendocino County stands the site of an Ecotopian/Arts compound for future creative production and sustainable living.
At the moment, the House at Dabblewood is a glorified vacation home set in a ferny wonderland. But as we see it develop, potential becomes reality. Currently there are 2 fresh water wells, a propane-fueled generator, a large studio workshop, meditation yurt, open meadow, and fruit orchard amid rings of majestic redwoods. Future plans include solar energy, organic gardens, as well as chickens and goats!
With the studio/workshop the property is a nurturing setting for artists to engage in creative projects and collaborative work, in whatever their medium. We are mindfully cultivating a cooperative environment here with muliti-purpose facilities, and mutually beneficial programs that allow us to open the doors to kindred spirits.
Programs include:
Live/Work Exchange
Private room & board offered, working an average of 20 hours a week while also pursuing your own creative project(s). We'll continually need the help of handy persons to assist on a variety of tasks.Artists in Residency
For artists and producers doing exceptional work in their field, a residency program has been establoished at Dabblewood. Stay at length while completing a specified project, sharing in the Magic of Nonchalance.Organizational Retreats
The complex is available for staff retreats to accepted groups in need, for a very affordable cost (specific terms apply).Trail & beach access, bikes & kayaks, tree houses, a hot tub, quality food & drink... it's our own psuedo-utopian homestead! But this aint no hippy free-for-all with naked drum circles going until 4 am while someone else is trying to get some sleep. We've learned quite plenty from the communal culture of Northern California. Lesson #1 is that there's lots of work to be done. Lesson #2 is that there must be some order to insure the stability of the community. And Lesson #3 is that adhering to the first two lessons ultimately allows for maximum enjoyment and pleasure for all.
